I always love to hear when music inspires an author — this week, Chrissy Chicory shares how that inspiration led to learning to play music, herself!

Happy Monday!
This past April, I started learning the cello (my cello’s name is Mirabelle
). It was actually my husband’s idea to add a little magic to our evenings—he’s learning Spanish guitar—and because my birthday falls close to our anniversary, the instruments became anniversary gifts to each other. Now, most nights we trade TV time for candlelight, a glass of wine, and two beginners happily strumming and bowing very off-key. It’s been the coziest, most creative shift.
While I write (and, clean the house), I live with Bach’s Cello Suites in the background. My big heart-goal is to play the Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 for my family on my 60th birthday. Ten-year dream, here we go!
In my Nettles B&B Paracozy Mystery series, each book centers around a haunted heirloom that once passed through the hands of a Victorian spiritualist named Bithia. These objects—emotionally charged and often cursed—were used during her séances and now cause gentle chaos in the present-day bed-and-breakfast she shares with her sister Cordelia’s ghost and a meddling band of pixies. Solving the mystery of each object requires uncovering its emotional truth, which often leads to healing (and a lot of baked goods). I’m currently writing Book 4, titled Daffodil and Devon Scones, which releases in spring 2026. In this installment, the haunted heirloom is a sleeping cello tucked away in the attic—a cello whose velvet bow was once used in a séance with a grieving musician’s wife. Now, it lulls guests, pixies, and even ghosts to sleep… except for Nan Nettles, who becomes quietly obsessed with playing it. Let’s just say the cello might not be the only thing waking up.
I’ve also just launched a cozy new reader group called The Velvet Teacup Society, and everyone is invited! It’s a whimsical blend of virtual pajama party and tea salon, where book lovers can gather once a month for behind-the-scenes peeks, themed giveaways, cozy chats, and a dash of pixie mischief. We sip tea, read a bit aloud, and share in the kind of gentle magic that makes a good story linger. But the conversations have already begun. You can join us here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thevelvetteacupsociety Pajamas, pets, and candlelight are always welcome.

Chrissy Chicory writes books with a touch of wonder—whether it’s ghostly heirlooms, timeworn poetry, enchanted keys, or the art of intentional living. She’s the author of four heartfelt series:
- The Nettles B&B ParaCozy Mysteries, where haunted heirlooms and mischievous pixies disrupt life in a Victorian seaside inn.
- The Culebra Chronicles, a romantasy series set in St. Augustine that follows half-fae sisters through ghost tours, pirate curses, and forgotten timelines.
- Ink and Verse, a poetic handwriting workbook series that pairs classical poetry with cursive penmanship for teens and adults.
- Lucid Living, a gentle personal development series exploring mindfulness, joy, and the beauty of daily life.
Chrissy lives in Florida, where she writes full-time with her husband, her cello (Mirabelle), and a teacup always within reach.
