“Ten Things” Readers Should Know About Me And My Writing
~ Kari Lemor

  1. I didn’t start writing until I was almost 50. I actually hated writing in school, but no one ever told me to create some characters and give them problems, then figure out how to solve them.
  2. I was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years.  I taught Kindergarten and Third Grade. With my Third Grade class, I wrote two children’s chapter books under the name KS Moran (my real name). The series, The Porter Museum Adventures, has The Singing Princess and Arabian Nights. They are action/adventure stories for grades 2 – 4.
  3. My first published book, Wild Card Undercover, was with Kensington Publishing. The first scene idea came to me in a dream. When I woke up, I had to stay in bed and figure out exactly why these characters were doing what they were doing. I jotted down ten pages of notes but never did anything with them for almost five years.
  4. In the book, True Dreams, the first in the Storms of New England series, Sara Storm’s last name was originally Lindquist. After seeing Bella Andre speak about her Sullivan series and how many books she had in it, I decided to make the series larger. But I wanted a more masculine last name for Sara’s brothers. The image of Sara looked very Scandinavian and looking up surnames, I found Storm and fell in love with it.
  5. In True Dreams, Darcy originally wasn’t even supposed to have a name. But when she started jumping into scenes, and stealing them from the main characters, I told her to stop. She said, “Make me.” So I had to promise her a book of her own so she’d back off. That book is Broken Dreams. But when I started writing it and saw what her past was, I said, “I can’t write this,” She jabbed me with her finger and said, “Bitch, you’re writing my story.” I did and cried through the whole thing.
  6. The idea for the book, Rangers of Acadia: Otter Cliffs came to me after hearing about the real life murder of a woman by her newlywed husband who pushed her off Otter Cliffs for the insurance money. While Otter Cliffs isn’t the same murder, I got the idea for the multiple deaths from that one.
  7. The series, Sounds of Silence, is about a Deaf family. With my sister being Deaf, my stepmom being an ASL interpreter, and my daughter being a teacher of the Deaf, I wanted to share my knowledge of the Deaf world and culture with readers, to show them what it’s like. This book won the National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award.
  8. My first foray into writing was with fan fiction (where you use already written books or shows or movies and use the same characters but create your own episodes/stories) and I have over 1.5 million words. Most of my stories are for Stargate Atlantis and I write under the names kariesue and karasel on fanfiction.net.
  9. I write science fiction erotica under the name Venus Galaxia. It started out as a joke with some other writer friends (we all created stories in the series Slutopia LOL) but I’ve added a few other stories since that first one.
  10. While I certainly model some of my characters after people I know, I’ve never used the entire real name of anyone. I made an exception recently with the bimbo my husband was having an emotional affair with for over a year. I killed her off by a serial killer in Childhood Dreams. (Said hub is on his way out the door, in case you wondered)
